Plug Safety

Most people are not aware of practical information and tips to prevent fires, electrical shocks or burns. These unfortunate and sometimes tragic events happen too often in the comfort of one’s own home.

plugFor protection and the preservation of energy, switch off and unplug electrical appliances from the live socket at the wall. If too many appliances are drawing energy from one source, the appliances may become overheated. If the television, lamp, stereo and computer are all connected to the same power source via an extension cord, please be aware that these appliances, even if they stand alone connected to a power source, have enough energy to cause a fire. If an extension cord is being used, make sure it can handle the flow of power.

Check the wires often for wear and tear. Throw the wires or cords away upon any signs of damage however slight it may be, and never run cables through rugs or carpets.

Some people have the tendency to disconnect a plug by pulling the cord. This bad habit can be fatal due to the strain placed on the electrical connections.

Finally, place plug guards throughout the home and in extension cords, so children do not stick items in the sockets and pets do not injure themselves while chewing on an extension cord.
